James Whitty (Jimbo)

Sadly, on January 29th, 2023, we lost a big personality in the aviation community.  Peacefully at his home in Florida, James Grant Whitty passed away with his family by his side.

Jimbo always had a smile on his face and was as friendly as they get.  He was a very generous person and was always there when you needed him.  Jimbo will be missed by many friends of the Canadian and American flying communities.

Among other accomplishments, he was an aircraft inspector, aircraft mechanic and pilot for 61 years. He was very passionate when it came to aviation and contributed greatly to the flying communities he was part of.  He was one of the beginning members of the PEI flying Club.  He inspired and mentored many people to pursue their passions in flight.

Leaving behind one of his many legacies, he was the developer of the Cable Head Airpark in St. Peters Bay, PEI.  This was a dream of his from back in the 70’s which he developed, operated and diligently maintained up until his recent passing.  The legacy will continue on with his son Michael taking over the reins.

As an Islander at heart, Prince Edward Island will be Jim’s final resting place.
